New Delhi, 22 February 2025 – On 21 February 2025, the Russian Embassy in India hosted a grand reception to mark Defender of the Fatherland Day, a significant occasion that honours those who have served in the armed forces.
The event brought together dignitaries and guests from India, Russia, and other friendly nations, highlighting the enduring ties between Russia and India. The evening’s Chief Guest, Air Vice Marshal Ichettira Iyappa Kuttappa VM VSM, Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Intelligence) of the Indian Air Force, was joined by an illustrious gathering, including senior Indian government officials, ambassadors, military attachés, business leaders, scientists, cultural figures, members of the press, and Russian expatriates.
Commemorating History and Partnership In his welcome address, Ambassador Denis Alipov, the Russian Federation’s representative to India, underscored the historical and strategic significance of the occasion. He reflected on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, emphasising the importance of preserving the memory of the Soviet people’s heroic contributions.
The Ambassador also highlighted that 2025 has been designated the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland in Russia, a tribute to the country’s commitment to honouring its military traditions. Ambassador Alipov further expressed confidence in the enduring strength of the Russian-Indian strategic partnership, which celebrates 25 years of fruitful collaboration. He lauded the relationship’s foundation of equality, mutual respect, and trust, affirming its role in fostering global stability.
Musical Tribute The reception featured a stunning performance by the Indian Air Force Band, which captivated guests with a harmonious blend of Russian and Indian music, symbolising the cultural and historical ties between the two nations.
Strengthening Bonds The event showcased the strong and evolving relationship between India and Russia, built on a shared vision of cooperation and mutual understanding. It served as a reminder of the significant role both nations play in upholding peace and security on the global stage.
