Armenia expresses interest in becoming BRICS observer country

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with the Indian portal Wion stated the country’s desire to become an observer of the group.

 

In response to a question about BRICS, Mirzoyan noted Armenia’s participation in the events of this association, as well as in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

 

According to the official, Armenia hopes to assess what opportunities for cooperation and development this format can provide for the region.

 

He also noted Armenia’s interest in expanding cooperation with India. Earlier on Monday (10 March), Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar held talks with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan. One of the topics of the officials’ talks was the possibility of establishing direct flights between Yerevan and New Delhi.
