Strengthening BRICS Collaboration Through Language and Cultural Exchange at Amity University

In an event aimed at deepening India-Russia relations and promoting cultural understanding, Dr Elena Remizova, head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in India, delivered a keynote lecture at Amity University titled “BRICS Perspectives: Understanding Russia through Language and Heritage.” The session, organised by Amity University, one of India’s leading private universities, showcased the importance of cultural and linguistic exchange within the BRICS framework.

Dr Remizova’s insightful lecture explored the role of language and cultural heritage in fostering diplomatic ties, particularly highlighting Russia’s growing role in BRICS. She emphasised how language plays a crucial role in creating shared understanding and strengthening partnerships between member countries.

Following Dr Remizova’s lecture, Ms Ekaterina Dynyak, head of the Russian Language Institute at the Russian House in New Delhi, presented on the history and richness of the Russian language. She delved into Russia’s diverse cultural landscape, capturing the attention of students and faculty alike. Additionally, the event highlighted the Rossotrudnichestvo quota campaign, a special programme offering Indian students opportunities to study at top Russian universities. The campaign, which received enthusiastic interest, has been instrumental in promoting academic and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

The visit also included a fruitful meeting with the BRICS University Centre, where agreements were made to further strengthen ties with Russian universities. Plans were laid to collaborate on the upcoming BRICS University Centre Autumn Conference, to be hosted at the Russian House in New Delhi, furthering the dialogue initiated at the recent BRICS Summit. An exciting highlight of the visit was the inauguration of the Druzhba Russian Cultural Club, founded by the university’s Russian language teachers and students. The club is set to be a vibrant space for cultural exchange and learning, with the Russian House pledging support for its future activities.

These engagements underscore the growing importance of cultural and academic collaboration between India and Russia within the BRICS framework. With language at the heart of understanding, these initiatives promise to foster lasting partnerships for a shared global future.
