The Indian Navy’s INS Tabar, a stealth frigate, proudly participated in the Russian Navy Day celebrations in St. Petersburg on Sunday. The presence of the INS Tabar at the event underscores the robust ties between the naval forces of India and Russia. This participation follows the frigate’s previous involvement in notable events such as the Main Naval Parade on July 25, 2021, which marked the 325th anniversary of the Russian Navy.
The INS Tabar, an advanced Talwar-class frigate, is a derivative of the Russian Krivak III frigates sold to India in 1997. Designed by the Baltic Shipyard and commissioned into the Indian Navy in 2004, the INS Tabar features a range of upgraded capabilities, making it a formidable asset in maritime operations. Russia commemorated Navy Day in St. Petersburg with an impressive parade, showcasing over 200 ships of various classes and more than 100 pieces of combat equipment. The celebration, observed on the last Sunday of July each year, saw participation from sailors of the Northern, Pacific, Baltic, and Caspian Fleets, as well as personnel from the Russian naval base in Syria.
During the parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin inspected the fleet, including the INS Tabar, from a presidential review boat on the Neva River. In his address, President Putin extended his congratulations to the sailors of the Russian Navy, highlighting the importance of the event and the enduring friendship between Russia and India. This year’s Main Naval Parade on the Neva River included 20 surface ships and gunboats, four sailing vessels, and a submarine, demonstrating the strength and diversity of Russia’s naval capabilities.
