Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva signed a bill at the Planalto Palace that renews and reforms the incentives for the Emergency Programme for the Renewal of the Event Sector (Perse).

Created in 2021 to help companies that were forced to cease operations during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Perse programme represents an important support for the development of the country’s creative economy, which accounts for around 3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) and employs around 7.5 million people in more than 130,000 official companies.

The text establishes a cap of R$15 billion (US$2.9 billion) in tax incentives, valid until December 2026, and applies to companies from 30 economic activities in the sector, including those related to tourism, culture and sports. This is reported by Metropoles, a partner of TV BRICS.

Among the companies that can benefit from the incentives are the hotel industry; catering; recreational, sports and stage equipment rental; theatre, music and dance productions; restaurants and similar establishments; bars and other establishments specialised in serving beverages; cinemas; travel agencies; and botanical gardens, zoos, national parks, ecological reserves and conservation areas, amusement parks and theme parks.
