StatsSA said the main factors affecting the overall inflation rate in April were housing and utilities, miscellaneous goods and services, food and non-alcoholic beverages, and transport.
The monthly change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0.3 per cent in April, down from the 0.8 per cent increase recorded in March.
Overall food inflation is slowing, with the exception of vegetables, fruit and hot drinks. This is reported by Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.
Annual food and non-alcoholic beverages inflation fell further to 4.7 per cent in April from 5.1 per cent in March, a five-month series of declines.
Most sub-categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages showed a decline in annual growth rates, with the exception of vegetables, fruit and hot drinks.
Inflation for bread and cereal products continues to slow, falling for the twelfth consecutive month in April. Bread flour, cake flour, baking mixes, white bread, pasta, breadcrumbs, breadcrumbs, salted biscuits and cornmeal became cheaper compared to a year ago.
