Zimbabwe has expressed readiness to host the 44th South African Development Community (SADC) summit scheduled for August this year.
The African country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa will take over the chairmanship of the regional body from his Angolan counterpart President Joao Lourenсo in 2024. This is reported by ZBC News, a partner of TV BRICS.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Rofina Chikava, said that a virtual meeting was held last week with the SADC secretariat to discuss various issues.
“Zimbabwe will assume the Chairmanship of SADC in August 2024 having been elected in 2023 in August in Luanda, Angola. As part of the preparations for the Chairmanship, the SADC Secretariat told us about its expectations from the Government of Zimbabwe. The meeting touched on the following issues: minimum standards for hosting SADC meetings, administrative and logistical arrangements for hosting the Summit of SADC, branding and publicity issues when hosting SADC meetings, ICT requirements, themes of the Summit and the SADC industrialization week. I must admit that the meeting was very insightful,” said Rofina Chikava.
