The event brought together Mr. Andrey Maksimov, Chairman of the Commission of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation on Territorial Development, Urban Environment, and Infrastructure, and Ms. Anna Du, Chairman of the Council of the Municipal Formation of the Syktyvkar Urban District. These prominent Russian figures joined hands with representatives from the All-India Council of Mayors and the Indian Institute of Public Administration to explore collaborative opportunities.
The meeting, attended by an array of Indian municipal officials—including current and former mayors from Chandigarh, Haridwar, Agra, Burhanpur, Bhopal, Rajpur, and Kozhikode—showcased the eagerness on both sides to foster dialogue around urban development, governance, and infrastructure.
The gathering was opened by Mr. Roman Babushkin, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in India, and Dr. Elena Remizova, Head of Rossotrudnichestvo’s Representative Office in India, who shared details about the upcoming BRICS Municipal Forum and the Economic Congress of the Municipal Forum, scheduled for November 21-22, 2024, in St. Petersburg. During the event, the Indian delegation received insightful presentations on Russian urban development initiatives, showcasing innovative programs from the Komi Republic, which highlighted sustainable infrastructure, community welfare, and tourism. The presentations served as a platform for knowledge exchange, with Russian representatives sharing insights on how Russia’s regions balance cultural heritage with modern infrastructure in their urban planning. Discussions also covered the broadening scope of Russian-Indian relations, particularly at the municipal level, underscoring the potential for collaboration on city planning, technology exchange, and community development. This dialogue marks a pivotal moment in building ties between Russian and Indian municipalities, setting the stage for future projects and exchanges that will benefit urban environments and citizens in both nations.
