Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled 109 varieties of climate resilient and biofortified crops at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute.
The agricultural proposals consist of 34 field proposals of various cereals including millets, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, fibre and other potential crops and are complemented by 27 horticultural crops including fruits, vegetables, tubers, spices, flowers. In a meeting with farmers and scientists, the prime minister emphasised the importance of value addition in agriculture and millets and lauded the positive changes in the country towards healthier production.
He also mentioned the benefits of natural forms of production and the growing public confidence in organic farming. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS. Modi added that people have started consuming and demanding such foods and congratulated scientists for developing such crop varieties.
