Kazakhstan launches national geodetic coordinate system to enhance spatial data infrastructure

Kazakhstan introduced its own national geodetic coordinate system, as reported by Kazinform, a partner of TV BRICS. This development is part of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure project, aimed at ensuring the country’s self-sufficiency in the field of geospatial data management.

The newly established geodetic coordinate system, supported by a network of continuously operating reference stations, was created following an audit conducted by the relevant authorities, as reported by the source.

Until now, the country relied on a coordinate, height, gravimetric, and satellite measurement system dating back to the mid-20th century. In response, authorities recommended urgent action to establish an independent geodetic system and develop a satellite geodetic network. As part of this initiative, the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry has completed the large-scale budget investment project “National Spatial Data Infrastructure.”

This cutting-edge system (QazTRF-23) ensures accuracy in geodetic and cartographic data, forming a foundation for further development of Kazakhstan’s spatial data infrastructure.

QazTRF-23 is expected to enhance the precision of geodetic measurements, unlocking new opportunities for territorial planning, construction, and the advancement of modern data management systems.
