Indian Film Festival 2024 to be held in Russia

The Indian Film Festival 2024, will be held from 20 to 24 December in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The event will showcase an exceptional line-up of 7 films of different genres, including national film award winners, and regional and arthouse independent films.

The opening ceremony will celebrate the birth centenary of legendary actor and director Raj Kapoor. The event will also include the presentation of the book “Rai Kapoor: Master at Work”, authored by Rahul Rawail; a screening of a film on Raja Kapoor and a special performance by the Chamber Choir of the Moscow Conservatory.

Nikhilesh Giri, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Indian Embassy in Moscow, emphasised that an important reason for holding this event is to show the modern generation of Russian Indian cinema from a different perspective. He noted that there are many Indian films that are currently receiving international recognition and various film awards.

“The second objective of course is to help facilitate a conversation between the film industries in Russia and India. We spoke about the possibility of more joint productions. There is a lot of interest and this has been conveyed to us at the level of the political leadership in Russia, that they would encourage Indian films to be shot in Russia and we can encourage joint collaborations in filmmaking,” he stated.

The festival will also feature panel discussions with Russian experts and guest actors from India. The main topic of discussion will be cooperation between Russia and India in the field of film production.

The Indian Film Festival 2024-Russia is organised by the Embassy of India in Moscow, the Consulate General of India in St. Petersburg, the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as well as the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
