Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov Inaugurates Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in New Delhi, Emphasising New Horizons in Indo-Russian Academic and Scientific Cooperation

The Russian Ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, inaugurated the Centre of the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) in New Delhi, a landmark event that promises to elevate the already rich tapestry of Indo-Russian humanitarian and scientific collaboration. The opening ceremony, attended by key figures from academia, government, and research communities of both nations, marked a pivotal step in expanding cultural and scientific diplomacy between Russia and India.

In his address, Ambassador Alipov highlighted the expansive potential for academic exchanges and joint research projects that the new centre will facilitate. “The Centre of the Russian Geographical Society in India represents more than just a geographical hub—it is a gateway for cultural and intellectual exchange that will strengthen our understanding of one another’s landscapes, cultures, and scientific practices,” he noted. “We look forward to encouraging deeper cooperation and knowledge-sharing across diverse fields, from environmental science to anthropology, fostering ties that are as resilient as they are dynamic.”

Ambassador Alipov emphasised that the establishment of the RGS Centre aligns with a shared vision between Russia and India: to harness educational and scientific exchanges as pillars of a sustainable, collaborative future. The centre will serve as a vibrant platform for scholars, researchers, and students to undertake joint initiatives, particularly in areas related to geography, natural sciences, and cultural studies.

The new centre also opens doors to a broad array of activities, from seminars and exhibitions to field research and student exchange programs. These initiatives aim to bring forth fresh perspectives on shared geographical and environmental challenges, fostering a collaborative response to issues that impact both regions, such as climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.

The opening of the RGS Centre underscores a deepening commitment from both nations to strengthen their historic relationship through education and research. This initiative is poised to enrich the Indo-Russian narrative, paving the way for future generations to build on a legacy of friendship and intellectual curiosity.
