Brazilian Minister of Culture Margarath Menezes stressed the importance of the Cultura Viva programme to support regional cultural traditions. In an interview she spoke about the benefits of the initiative, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
Supporting local communities and promoting creative groups has helped to shape national identity, the official concluded. By 2024, thanks to Cultura Viva, some 5,000 specialised “Points of Culture” have opened in Brazil.
“These specialised centres are recognised as an important tool for preserving the identity of our country’s regions. They impact communities, creating jobs and income for many families. We have a very strong network that connects everyone from a small theatre company to street carnival groups,” the minister said.
During the interview, she also highlighted the government’s achievements in supporting the audiovisual sector. This is reported by Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.
