Professor Esayas Alemayehu of Jimma University, emphasised the need to strengthen cooperation among the Nile Basin countries to develop the region by building more hydropower projects.
He noted that development and effective resource management are key factors for the improvement of the region. This is reported by ENA.
“We have to be proud. We have demonstrated to the world that we are capable of having such a huge project. There were many challenges internationally and regionally, but we have overcome those challenges and came up with such an exemplary project which showed that Africans are capable of doing big projects by themselves,” he stressed.
He also emphasised the importance of the successful construction and management of the hydropower project in Ethiopia and stressed the importance of cooperation for the implementation of similar projects in other Nile Basin countries. He also emphasised the importance of hydropower as an important variety of renewable energy to supply various sectors of the economy.
