Minister of Education of Brazil Camilo Santana said after a meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva that the government plans to start paying scholarships to poor students from March. This is reported by Brasil247, a partner of TV BRICS.
The individual amount of the allowance will be detailed in regulations, after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva approves the text of the programme, which was approved by Congress last December.
“We are working to ensure that students start receiving their payments from March,” Minister of Education Camilo Santana told reporters after meeting with the president.
The temporary measure provides an incentive for students registered in the Unified Registry of Social Programmes (CadÚnico), under the Bolsa Família programme, or for young people between 19 and 24 years old participating in the Education for Youth and Adults (EJA) programme. The benefit is expected to reach around 2.5 million young people.
