Russia and Iran discuss expanding railway cooperation within the framework of the North-South

Russian Ambassador to Tehran Aleksey Dedov and President of Railway of the Islamic Republic of Iran Jabbar Ali Zakeri held talks in Tehran, discussing ways to strengthen transport cooperation between the two countries. This is reported by IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

Special attention was paid to the development of the North-South International Transport Corridor. Zakeri suggested holding a joint meeting of railway experts from Russia and Iran to discuss the issues and prospects of bilateral cooperation, as well as to consider opportunities for Russia to invest in Iran’s railway infrastructure.

Dedov supported this proposal and also initiated an international summit of the countries participating in the North-South International Transport Corridor project. The North-South International Transport Corridor is a multimodal transport route created by Iran, India, and Russia in 2000 that connects the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea and then to St. Petersburg and Northern Europe.

Many countries have joined the project in recent years, which shows its importance for the development of transport links in the region.
