Atlas Social and Cultural Centre in Delhi welcomed the return of the highly anticipated “Brunch with a Book” reading club for a new season. This season opened with an engaging discussion centred on Mikhail Sholokhov’s iconic novel And Quiet Flows the Don, a masterpiece that captures the turbulent history of the Don Cossacks.
In a special guest appearance, Alexander Sholokhov, Member of the Russian Parliament (State Duma) and grandson of the esteemed author, shared personal insights into the life and work of Mikhail Sholokhov. He revealed little-known facts about his grandfather’s biography, offering the audience an intimate glimpse into the life of the Nobel Prize-winning author. Alexander’s recollections, enriched with family stories, painted a vivid picture of the man behind the literature.
Adding to the event’s depth, Lydia Slyusarenko, Scientific Secretary of the State Museum-Reserve of Mikhail Sholokhov, delivered a captivating presentation on the legacy of the Sholokhov family. Her talk explored how the Sholokhovs have contributed to the preservation of both the writer’s literary heritage and the cultural traditions of the Don Cossacks. Lydia also shared intriguing details about the museum’s efforts to maintain and promote this legacy, ensuring that future generations remain connected to Sholokhov’s work.
The event brought together a diverse audience, including Russian compatriots, diplomats, and students from the Embassy School in Delhi.
