According to Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, about 30 countries have already expressed interest in joining BRICS. Discussions on the accession of these new countries and how it will be done will be decided during the summit in Russia. This is reported by the official website of the Brazilian Government.
“BRICS is a very important and interesting platform, starting with the five countries that gave birth to the acronym BRICS, expanding to other important actors in the international community now. It is a platform for dialogue. The dialogue between these different platforms will only contribute to a better understanding between countries”

Mauro Vieira also emphasised the importance of chairing the G20 in 2024 and preparing for COP30, which will be held in Brazil next year. COP30, scheduled for November 2025 is expected to attract more than 40,000 visitors. The minister emphasised that the event will be an opportunity for Brazil to showcase its progress on climate issues. Vieira also commented on the G20 Summit to be held in November in Rio de Janeiro, where the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, a Brazilian initiative to unite countries in the fight against world hunger, will be launched.
The minister also touched on digital inclusion as a priority in the G20 discussions, emphasising that social inclusion is fundamental to the development and well-being of the Brazilian population. In his view, the G20 is an important platform to promote dialogue on key issues that affect both developed and developing economies.
