Brazil to create office to combat the effects of climate change

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva announced the creation of the Climate Directorate and the scientific and technical committee operating under it. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.

The new institutions will be responsible for coordinating the federal government’s actions to combat the effects of climate change. The decision was announced at a meeting with mayors of Manaus, which the head of state held together with Environment Minister Marina Silva.

During his speech, the President drew attention to the problem of natural disasters such as drought and forest fires, the increase in the number of which is one of the consequences of climate change. Addressing these problems requires more effective and coordinated public policies.
