Cuba is ready to receive at least 200 thousand Russian tourists this year. From 1 January to 31 March 2024, Russian tourist traffic to Cuba totalled 66,887, a record high since 32,224 Russian tourists came to the island during the same period a year ago. This is reported by Prensa Latina, a partner of TV BRICS.
Cuban authorities are in talks to increase the number of flights from Russia, as well as to attract investors and hotel companies from that country. There are now direct flights to Havana, Varadero and Cayo Coco with a near maximum load factor of 94 per cent.
“In 2019, before the pandemic, there were 18 weekly flights from Russia to Cuba. And now the authorities want to expand the geography of departures, raising the figure to 20 flights a week,” concluded Christina Leon, tourism counsellor at the island state’s embassy in Russia.
The publication specifies that Cuba received 185,000 Russian tourists in 2023.
