Strengthening Indo-Russian Collaboration in Transport Infrastructure

India and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in the field of transport infrastructure, with both nations agreeing to exchange vital information and explore new avenues for mutual investments. This significant development was announced by the Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways following the second meeting of the Russian-Indian Working Group on Roads and Intelligent Transport Systems, held in Moscow.

The meeting, which concluded with several positive outcomes, highlighted the strong partnership between the two countries in the transport sector. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far and reiterated their mutual desire to expand collaboration. The discussions focused on five key areas of cooperation, marking a major milestone in the bilateral relationship between India and Russia. These areas include the exchange of information and joint research on cutting-edge technologies and materials used in the construction of roads and bridges. The two countries also explored opportunities for developing mutual investments in key programs and projects related to highways and transport infrastructure.

A major point of discussion was the sharing of knowledge in the field of intelligent transport systems. The Russian side proposed investing in a barrier-free toll collection system based on advanced satellite navigation technology. In response, the Indian delegation confirmed that a transparent tender process will soon be launched to attract global players, including leading Russian companies, to participate in the project. This collaboration between India and Russia is expected to set new standards in infrastructure development, benefiting both nations by fostering innovation, improving connectivity, and encouraging foreign investments in critical transport sectors.
