Iran supplies more than 97% of the country’s domestic pharmaceutical needs

Iran aims to become the world’s third pharmaceutical power by increasing production of key components for medicines. This is reported by Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS. Iran produces active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) that are used to create medicines. Iran is currently able to supply more than 97 per cent of the country’s domestic drug needs. but further development requires increasing production of key starting materials (KSM), which are mostly imported.

The production of KSM is a key factor to increase value addition in Iran’s pharmaceutical industry. This will save foreign exchange and strengthen the country’s position in the global pharmaceutical market. Iran has already started full-fledged production of KSM, the country’s most common antibiotic.

The move could turn Iran into a key player in the global pharmaceutical market and ensure the country’s independence in drug production.
